Privacy Policy

Scanly ("the app") is a document scanner and OCR app operated by Deplyra ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: help@deplyra.com.

Summary

You sign in with an email, Google or Apple account so your Pro entitlement and (for Pro) your synced documents follow you across devices.
Text recognition, translation and "Explain This Document" run on our server, which sends the page image or text to our AI provider (Google Gemini) only to produce your result.
We do not use your documents to train AI models, and we do not sell your data.
On the Free plan your scans stay on your device. On Pro, documents you choose to sync are stored in your account.
You can delete your account and all associated data from inside the app at any time.

What we collect

Account data. When you sign in we receive your email address and a user ID from Firebase Authentication (Google). If you use Google or Apple sign-in, we receive the email and basic profile those services return. We use this to identify your account and manage your subscription.

Document content. When you scan or import a page and run OCR, translation or Explain, the image or extracted text is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing server to generate the result. On Free, extracted text is stored only on your device; scanned images are not uploaded for storage. On Pro, documents you choose to sync are stored in your account so they are available on your other devices.

Purchase data. Subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We receive a purchase token/receipt to verify your subscription and record your entitlement; we never receive your full payment card details.

Usage & diagnostics. Basic, non-identifying counters (for example, how many scans you have made today) to enforce plan limits, plus crash/diagnostic information to keep the app working.

AI processing

OCR, translation and Explain are performed server-side. To generate your result we transmit the relevant page image or text to Google (Gemini API) acting as our processor. The content is used solely to return your result and is not used by us, or by the provider under our configuration, to train models. Results are returned to your device; we do not retain the source image after processing on the Free path.

Advertising (Free plan)

The Free plan shows ads via Google AdMob. On first launch you are shown a consent choice (Google's UMP), and in regions that require it you can choose non-personalised ads. Pro has no ads. See Google's advertising and privacy policies for how AdMob handles ad requests.

How we share

We share data only with the processors that make the app work: Google Firebase (authentication), Google Gemini (AI processing), Google AdMob (Free-plan ads), and the Apple App Store / Google Play (purchases). We do not sell personal data.

Retention & deletion

Account and synced-document data are kept until you delete them. You can permanently delete your account and all associated server data from Settings → Delete account in the app; this removes your profile, entitlement record, usage history and any cloud documents, and deletes your sign-in identity. You may also email help@deplyra.com to request deletion.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Contact us to exercise them. Deplyra is the data controller for Scanly.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to server data is restricted and scoped to your account. No method is perfectly secure, but we design for least-privilege and delete what we do not need.

Children

Scanly is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
